Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI)
The Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) plays a key role in promoting transparency and accountability within Papua New Guinea’s extractive sector through its active participation in the Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI).
MRA is a member of the Multi-Stakeholder Group (MSG), the governing body responsible for overseeing all EITI activities in Papua New Guinea. The Managing Director of MRA serves as the Authority’s representative on the MSG and is supported by a dedicated team comprising a manager and five staff drawn from various operational divisions within MRA.
As part of its commitment to EITI reporting requirements, MRA regularly provides comprehensive data and information, including:
- Production levy payments received from operating mining companies.
- Royalty payments made by mining companies to sub-national governments, landowners, and registered landowner associations.
- Tenement information managed through MRA’s Landfolio Tenement Management System, including:
- Active tenements
- Tenement renewals
- New tenement applications
- Records of licence transfers, ensuring transparency in ownership and changes in mineral rights.
Through these contributions, MRA supports the national effort to strengthen governance, improve public trust, and ensure that revenues from the extractive sector are properly accounted for and benefit the people of Papua New Guinea.
MRA remains committed to upholding the EITI Standard and continuously strives to enhance transparency, accountability, and good governance across all aspects of its operations.
