We pride ourselves as a performing government institution, transparently delivering services and projects in the exploration & mining communities/districts, and the wider Papua New Guinea. Of the many projects and achievement of this institution, the ones that touched the hearts and impacted more people are listed here.

Year 2020

Acquisition of the Porgera Gold Project

The State of PNG, through Kumul Minerals Holdings Limited (Kumul Minerals), acquired the Porgera Gold Project under Special Mining Lease (SML) 11. The SML was granted to Kumul Minerals on 25/08/2020 for a 20 years’ period to 24/08/2040.

The project was previously managed by Barrick (Niugini) Limited under SML 1(P), which expired when the state refused to extend the term of the SML.

The project has 10 million ounces plus gold resource in situ. If the whole 10 million ounces is converted into reserves, the State stands to generate US$ 9 billion in revenue from its 51% agreed stake in the project.

Year 2020

First Limestone Mine

Mayur Industrials PNG Limited was granted Mining Lease (ML) 526 on 14/08/2020 for 20 years by the State. The ML is located at the Kido Lea Lea area outside of Port Moresby. The ML was granted for the development of cement and lime products. The project is to commence construction in quarter four 2021 and commence production in quarter four 2022. The State stands to benefit from a royalty of US$30.2 million and an income tax to the value of US$1.3 billion over the lifespan of the mine.

Year 2019

Wafi Golpu Feasibility Studies Report

Wafi Goplu delivered its final feasibility studies in 2018. The Government of Papua New Guinea through its various government departments and agencies completed the assessment. The next process is preparatory activities towards a Mine Development Contract between the government and the developer.

Year 2018

Commissioning of the Road in Sinivit LLG, Pomio, East New Britain Province

The National Government under the Revised Sinivit Mine MOA from 2009 committed to provide road maintenance for a 10km stretch of road starting from the end of seal road at Warangoi to the Riet/ Arabam junction in Sinivit LLG, Pomio District, and East New Britain Province.  The MRA implemented the upgrading and sealing a 3.5 km section of this road. The project started in 2017 and completed in 2028, with the Mining Minister, Hon Johnson Tuke officially commissioning it.
