Technical Assessment Branch (TAB)

The Compliance branch is to ensure all tenement applications received meet the Mining Act 1992 requirements for financial and technical capabilities and provide advice to the Mining Advisory Council for its recommendation to the Minister for Mining. To ensure tenement holders comply with terms of grant and support the Office of the Executive Manager, Regulatory Operations Division with timely information to inform both internal and external stakeholders on matters relating to the regulation of the mining industry.

Objectives

Ensure all tenement applications received meet the Mining Act 1992 requirements for financial and technical capabilities and provide advice to the Mining Advisory Council for its recommendation to the Minister for Mining
Ensure tenement holders comply with terms of grant.
Support the Office of the Executive Manager, Regulatory Operations Division with timely information to inform both internal and external stakeholders on matters relating to the regulation of the mining industry.

Functions

Conduct technical & financial appraisals of applications made for tenements (exploration licenses, mining leases, alluvial mining leases).
Conduct compliance checks of reports submitted as per terms of grant of active tenements.
Conduct appraisals of technical reports submitted by mining companies on the feasibility of mine developments and advise companies on all relevant regulatory requirements for the development of a mining project.
Collate relevant mining statistics for informing other government agencies when requested through the Executive Manager, Regulatory Operations Division.
Provide advice on regulatory matters and mining statistics to the Development Coordination Division in assisting with multi-stakeholder consultation forums for respective mining projects.
Monitoring and reviewing of mine closure plans.
