Internal Auditor

Provide Mineral Resource Authority (MRA) Board and Management with an independent, objective assurance designed to add value and improve MRA operations by performing audits in all activities and locations to review and evaluate the effectiveness and efficiency of management operating systems, reliability of financial reporting, compliance with applicable laws and regulations and safeguard of assets.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze operational and management process and systems controls effectiveness with a view to improving and proposing value added recommendations.
  • Develop, implement and review risk based annual audit plans that align with MRA’s core business and strategic goals.
  • Develop, implement and review a corporate governance framework for establishing and maintaining an effective internal audit function within MRA.
  • Develop and review a Board Audit Committee (BAC) charter to ensure compliance with PNG laws and regulations.
  • Develop and review an Internal Audit (IA) charter to ensure compliance with MRA policies and internal control systems.
  • Develop the scope for operational, information technologies, financial and security audit projects and develop appropriate audit steps necessary to promote effective audit coverage for the manager’s approval.
  • Conduct management, Information Technology, financial and security audit projects according to yearly audit plans in all areas of MRA.
  • Identify control and process weaknesses, document main control points and provide evidential support for report recommendation.
  • Develop and maintain a risk register to ensure all relevant information are recorded and updated at all times.
  • Participate in the development of new information systems to ensure that efficient and effective controls are incorporated.
  • Perform fieldwork in all MRA locations.

Experience & Qualification:

  • Accounting Degree Certified Practicing Accountant qualified.
  • Demonstrated skills in risk auditing.
  • Knowledge of the business objectives of various and complex environment.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience as an Auditor. Experience in various in auditing and/or accounting.
