Exploration Coordination
The Exploration Coordination Branch (ECB) is one of three (3) branches of the Development Coordination Division of MRA. It aims to ensure that exploration activities within Papua New Guinea are conducted within the regulatory and policy framework.
ECB Roles and Functions
- To create a harmonious, equitable and sustainable environment for mineral exploration.
- To ensure exploration activities are in compliance with relevant policies and legislations.
- Facilitate the development forum consultation process for the mining projects.
- Carry out Awareness on relevant Government Policies in relation to Approval and permitting Processes and Procedures.

- Wafi Golpu Project in Morobe Province.
- Frieda River Project in Sandaun Province.
- Woodlark Gold Mine Project in Milne Bay Province (currently, mine is under construction)
- Central Cement Lime Project in Central Province
- Oro Nickel & Cobalt Project in Oro Province
- Misima Mines in Milne Bay Province
Mine Life Cycle
The life cycle of a mine starts from exploration phase to mine development/construction phase through to mine closure stage. Mine Life Cycle captures the requirements to mandate the project progress and development throughout the project life cycle.
