GEOSCIENCE FOR ENERGY
Applying Geoscience in developing our renewable energy resources
Papua New Guinea has an abundance in natural renewable energy resources. Yet it imports approximately 42,000 barrels of fossil fuel per day in 2018 to provide for its electricity needs. This is approximately 17% of total Merchandise Imports
The Mineral Resources Authority, through the Geological Survey Division, is involved in projects that is aimed at meeting the Government’s aspiration of achieving 100% renewable energy by 2050. By going renewables we hope to reduce our dependence on fossil fuel.
