Safety Alert – Light Vehicle Fatal Accident
On the 3rd of January,2023, a fatal accident occurred in one of the Mines in PNG in which a deceased contractor employee was discovered to have sustained crush injury to the upper torso caused by the right rear (back) wheel of a light vehicle (LV) Toyota troop carrier.
The initial information provided revealed that a lone driver of the contractor LV travelling up the hill when he pulled over to the right side of the road. After stopping, the driver left the engine running on idle, parked in neutral gear, applied the hand brake and gone out of the LV. Unfortunately, the vehicle rolled back knocking the person over at the right rear tail end of the LV with the wheel crushing onto his right torso and possibly crushing the person to death.
